AssetCool Unveils Advanced Anti-Corrosion Coating for Overhead Conductors – SE03

25th October, 2024 Leeds, United Kingdom

AssetCool, a leader in advanced materials and robotics for power systems, is proud to announce the launch of SE03, anti-corrosion coating technology specifically designed for overhead conductors. SE03 offers a triple-effect anti-corrosion solution, incorporating maximum durability through barrier properties derived from 2D materials, passivation technology, and state of the art chemical/pH resistance. This innovative system significantly extends the life of heavily corroded lines, ensuring long-term reliability and performance.

Corrosion of overhead conductors is a significant challenge, particularly in coastal, desert or industrial areas, that can lead to increased maintenance costs, the need for regular surveying, and potential safety hazards. Currently, there are few options for protecting heavily corroded overhead conductors. SE03 addresses these issues by offering a robust solution that can extend the lifespan of existing infrastructure without the need for costly replacements.

When aluminium conductors are exposed to extreme environments (pH extremes, chemical pollutants), there is a reduction in aluminium cross section, pitting emerges and the electro-mechanical properties of the conductor are negatively affected. It has not been practical before to apply anti-corrosion coatings to protect overhead lines that have aged quicker than expected. This is now made possible by the application to existing conductors through AssetCool’s CapacityN in-situ power line coating robot or in the factory with AssetCool’s in factory CAM-ACU processing line.

AssetCool’s CEO, Dr Niall Coogan, commented on this breakthrough: "We are excited to utilise our position at the nexus of formulation chemistry, power systemts and advanced robotics to solve problems in the power systems space in completely novel ways. Extensive resources are spent surveying overhead lines to see how quickly it needs replacing. SE03 and CapacityN now offer a cost-effective tool to extend the life of existing assets by mitigating reductions in aluminium cross section."

SE03’s development is built upon AssetCool’s deep understanding of the performance and durability constraints of materials for overhead transmission and distribution lines. The company’s tunable chemistry platform has once again proven instrumental in creating a solution that not only meets but exceeds industry expectations.

The full scientific details of SE03’s technology and performance will be reported through official scientific channels and technical data room.
